NOTE: I currently have a commission backlog so won’t be taking on any more at the moment, BUT if you want one, send me an email to say you want me to get in touch when I’ve got an opening, and I’ll let you know!
If you want something more complicated than the above examples (such as anything with a background) please get in touch and I can provide you a quote - the process is different from the ground up if I’m putting together a full composition rather than a single figure. Full illustration pricing is based on detail, so give me a good idea of what you’re looking for up front; pricing will likely start around $750 and go up to $2000+ depending on complexity. If you want work for commercial use - book cover, etc - let me know so I can draw up a proper contract discussing rights.
Availability & Timing:
- I don’t have a slot system and usually don’t open and close commissions (unless I get REALLY busy) but I’m a full-time illustrator so if you contact me when I’m booked up, there may be a delay. I can let you know and get back to you when I’m available.
- I will aim for 2 weeks for rough / 3 weeks for final; if things get busier than I expect it may take longer but I’ll communicate. (If you have a deadline, i.e. it’s a gift, let me know. If you need it very quickly and I have the availability, we can work out a rush fee.)
Will Draw:
- Human and humanoid OCs - fantasy, sci-fi, historical, etc
- Portraits of real people ONLY with hi res, well-lit reference; I may turn down a likeness if I don’t think I’ll do a good job with the reference provided. You’re paying, I don’t want to give you sub-par art!
Won’t Draw:
- Furries/anthro (no judgement, just not my forte!)
- NSFW (again, just not my thing!)
Revisions:
- I offer two rounds of reasonable revisions on the rough and one round of minor revisions on the final, further revisions require a small fee depending on complexity
- Reasonable revisions include pose tweaks, colour changes, small details, expression fixes, etc. They do not include complete redrawing of the pose, changing your mind on a major detail already communicated, or offering no guidance (do whatever you think works!) and looking for something completely different after seeing the rough.
- Minor revisions on final include things that have drifted slightly or been detailed out between rough and final; nothing that could have been pointed out at the rough stage.
- Revisions due to my error (I do miss/forget stuff!) are always free
Reference:
- When no visual reference is available please provide: Hair, Eyes, Skin, Clothes (with picture reference if possible), Accessories, and Expression/Pose (or a summary of personality that would help me come up with the expression/pose) Any possible pictures can help if you’ve got something specific in mind - people with similar facial features, hairstyles, etc
- If the character is from a video game (WoW or SWTOR OCs, for example) please provide images as large and hi-res as possible, including from the character selector screen. If the character has specific in-game gear, letting me know what it is and sending the best-quality images you can find is helpful. I can’t accurately paint details I can’t clearly see!
- If you’re sending existing art of the character as reference, that should be all I need, though if it’s in a more simplified style let me know if there’s any bits you’d like me to detail out a little.
How To Get One:
- Contact me via email (kim at kimsokol dot com) to let me know roughly what you’re looking for, and I’ll let you know if I can take it. You don’t need to send a long description with reference in initial contact, but at least give me a general sense of what you want.
- Once I accept, email me a detailed description and any reference images you have
- Send payment via Paypal, and I’ll get going on your rough!
